Gibbons Director David Freeman Featured in The New York Environmental Lawyer

David J. Freeman, a Director in the Gibbons Environmental Department, was recently profiled in the Fall/Winter 2015 edition of The New York Environmental Lawyer for his achievements as a longstanding member of the Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.

A member of the Section for more than 30 years, Mr. Freeman serves as Co-Chair of both the Committee on Hazardous Waste/Site Remediation and the Section’s Brownfields Task Force. The Task Force played an important role in the passage of the State’s Brownfield Cleanup Act in 2003 and the amendments enacted in 2008 and 2015, and in monitoring and commenting on the implementation of the Act by the Department of Environmental Conservation. Mr. Freeman received the Section’s Distinguished Service Award in 2001.

Mr. Freeman has over 35 years of experience representing buyers, sellers, and developers of contaminated properties, as well as both plaintiffs and defendants in Superfund and other litigation regarding the cleanup of hazardous waste sites. He is a frequent author and speaker on environmental law topics and received the 2012 Burton Award for “an outstanding law firm author.” His extensive bar association and pro bono activities include service as President of the New York City Brownfield Partnership, Vice Chair of the New York State League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, and Special Legal Counsel to the United Nations Environment Programme for North American Environmental Affairs. Mr. Freeman is listed in Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and New York Super Lawyers.

The latest edition of The New York Environmental Lawyer also features an article on 2015 Amendments to the New York State Brownfield Cleanup program, authored by Mr. Freeman and Lawrence Schnapf, which was originally published in the Bloomberg BNA – Daily Environment Report.
